So, what's a bounty hunter to do when he doesn't have much money and he's taken all the bounties on the planet? Well you gotta get yourself a transport to go to other planets. And that's just what Jet did when he had the money. The Bebop is an old cargo vessel. The cargo bay was converted into a hangar to hold personal craft and acts sort of like an aircraft carrier. The Bebop reflects its owner on its exterior. The name of the ship is spray painted on the site of the ship and the hull is well-dented and charred.
The Bebop was origionally a fishing trauler used to transport fish from the ocean planet of Ganymede to other planets in the solar system. The origional design was very slow but was capable of interplanetary travel. When Jet purchased the Bebop he made some modifications to make it suitable for Bounty Hunting. Jet also takes great offense when people insult the Bebop. Its like his child. Most of the cargo bay was converted to hold the Swordfish and Hammerhead (Good thing they have retractable wings). Eventually Faye's Red Tail was stored in there too which is actually hung from the ceiling of the hangar. There is room for personal quarters but not much else. There is one common area where most of the crew spend most of their time. There isn't enough room for a proper prison. Instead bounties are handcuffed to whatever's handy. Chairs, stairs, pipes and even the bathroom are used to store prisoners.
Of all the ships its the only one capable of being used to transport everybody between the planets. When Jet purchased the Bebop he added more powerful engines and a communications system capable of intercepting transmissions. The Bebop is a very large ship. As a matter of fact, Spike and Jet claim to still not have explored every compartment on the ship. Faye's and Spike's can be used for short excursions but are not designed to travel between the planets.
One unique feature about the Bebop is the roatating cylinder in the middle of the ship. It appears to be part of the artificial gravity system. One of these also appeared on another ship in Honky Tonk Women.
